Clinical practice and public health interventions are required to be evidence-based. Specifically this means recommendations must be derived from data gathered, ranked and analysed according to a rigorous protocol that recognises systematic reviews of randomised controlled trials (RCTs) as the source of highest quality data.
The National Weight Control Registry (NWCR), which is often cited to support claims that certain eating and monitoring behaviours reliably lead to sustained weight loss, relies on self-report. In this webinar we will (1) have an overview of the NWCR (2) explore the implications of using the NWCR to underwrite evidence-based practice (3) consider two high quality RCTs of weight management and explore their implications for evidence-based practice.
