The belief that dieting/calorie-deficit reliably improves health is widely promoted. It is also widely critiqued and dietitians and nutritionists, medics, therapists and others who reject dieting instead use a health-gain/HAES/non-diet/anti-diet approach, often grouped under the umbrella terms such as weight-inclusive and fat affirming. These approaches are not routinely taught in UK curricula and are absent in the current version of the BDA Manual of Dietetic Practice.
This session gives an overview of key principles, commonalties, and contrasts between the various approaches. It will be useful for practitioners, educators, policy makers, researchers.
