Description
Thursday 12th June 8pm – 9pm
If you were trained to approach nutrItion counselling and education through the metric of BMI, getting started with a weight-inclusive approach that centres health justice can feel very daunting.
In this introductory session I will explain a practical tool, shared as a handout, that helps you and your clients move from a focus on BMI to a broader focus on overall wellbeing that also considers social factors and trauma.
A key tenet is that supporting people to (i) engage in self-care/self-compassion/ health behaviour change and (ii) understand how social factors impact their eating, sense of self-worth, and health outcomes, are inherently valuable. In other words, a shift to health justice is benefical whether or not it is has any impact on weight.
By the end of the session you will be able to explain to clients why you are suggesting a change in emphasis and feel more confident that you have the skills and concepts that will enble you to put this into practice.
